The National Organization for Women's Safety Awareness Inc. (NOWSA), was founded by Lidia Szczepanowski-Goldsmith, an attorney, a black belt and Mrs. New York America 2006-07. Lidia's platform as Mrs. New York America was Women's Safety Awareness and after her reign, she was determined to continue to advance this very worthwhile cause. Her goal was and continues to be to promote awareness, build confidence, and instill strength into the minds of women, empowering them with the skills necessary to avoid an attack, and if required, fight back against a perpetrator.

During this VITA seminar, known as "Dangerous Divas Safety Tactics", women are educated about so much more than just self defense. Attendees are shown that by learning and applying just a few simple principles to their lives, they can significantly decrease their chances of being the victim of a crime.
  "Women leave our seminars feeling much more secure and confident, walking out with their chins a little higher and shoulders back a little further", explains Szczepanowski-Goldsmith.
  "Although national crime was up 3.7% in the first half of 2006 and statistically 1 in 6 women over the age of 12 have been victims of an attempted or completed rape, I teach women not to live in fear, but to always be aware of their surroundings and be prepared."
